I find the concept of (a)theism helpful here, a term I learned from Peter Rollins.

The idea is that even for those of us who are theists, we are also atheists towards many understandings of God.

In my view we can only understand God through the lens of beliefs/ideas created by humans, because that's all we have. The difficulty is that these beliefs/ideas often get turned into idols, or gods in-and-of themselves.

So, to answer your question directly, I'm angry at the conception of God I was brought up with (or a large part of it). I don't believe in this understanding of God.

I'm not angry at religion. I struggle to engage with church, due to the story I shared in this article, and social anxiety, and other reasons, but I'm not angry at the church.
