Disney movies are so powerful because they touch on deep archetypes. I've learned to be less judgemental of them in recent years and find the good in them. I don't know if you want any Studio Ghibli, they're equally powerful and don't shy away from human flaws and the dark side of human experience. My favorite is "My Neighbor Totoro". "Ponyo" is their retelling of the Little Mermaid, and is also excellent.
