I’ve moved from being an emotional, compulsive eater into more healthy eating habits. In the past six months, I’ve lost 11 kilos (24 pounds) and I’ve kept the weight off. I’m a healthy BMI of 23.

And then, there’s peanut butter…

Two Spoonfuls is Never Enough

I wonder whether every healthy eater has their kryptonite — the food that pulls them back into overeating. For me, it’s peanut butter. I can’t just stop at one spoonful. Or even two.

There are some evenings where I’ll end up eating half a jar, undoing my exercise and healthy eating plan for the week. It’s so calorific that there are limited ways to recover from such a massive blip, other than returning to my healthy eating and avoiding the other half of the jar.

To get my mouth watering, I only have to think about how good peanut butter is:

  • On a stack of pancakes, with maple syrup
  • Spooned into my morning oats, with fresh Greek yogurt
  • Baked into brownies
